It happens. While you love your stylist dearly, sometimes he or she just won’t listen when you request a change. You get frustrated and then you do it…you cheat.
I’ve had it happen to me and the effects can be heartbreaking. It’s painful – much like when you break up with a significant other. I always ask myself what went wrong.
We know our clients pretty well. If your stylist knows your personality and feels that you won’t do well with change, he or she may not be comfortable handling the potential emotional reaction that can come with a drastic cut. When we’re dealing with a new client that we don’t know very well, it’s easier to let go and objectively make changes.
Sometimes a stylist simply gets into a rut. If you want a change and feel that your stylist isn’t listening to you, one suggestion is to bring in pictures of styles you like. Your stylist should be able to explain why a particular cut will or won’t work for you. If the style won’t suit you, he or she should be able to come up with something that will.
A stylist who is confident in his/her ability should be excited to make changes for clients, not reluctant. If you share a picture and your stylist refuses to give you the cut and you are not satisfied with his or her reasoning, it is probably time to find another stylist.
While breaking up is hard to do, at least you’ll know you gave the relationship your best shot. And if you make a break, I know a great San Marco salon with wonderful stylists.
